The facilities at Waiwera Thermal Resort have changed in the last 165 years, but the water’s drawn from the same natural aquifer. I visited Waiwera recently, to check out the facilities.

Waiwera now boasts many pools – including a movie pool which screens three movies daily. It’s the perfect way to relax and soak up a the mineral-rich waters – and more fun than meeting friends at the local mulitplex again.

It was a busy day in the school holidays, so the water slides were very popular!

For those who feel the waterslides are a little too exciting, there’s also a Lazy River to relax in.

I’m sure the dentist was the last thing on these kid’s minds, but Waiwera does boast a dental clinic! It serves the community… including local children.

It’s reached by a separate entrance, tucked away by the gorgeous spa facilites.

Many of us think of Waiwera as a summer destination. It’s easy to see why! Kiwis love swimming, plus Waiwera has plenty of BBQ and picnic spots for the DIY alfresco dining we love.

But internationally, thermal pools like Waiwera are Winter spots. What better way to escape the chill than by soaking in naturally hot water?

Taking a dip is warming, relaxing, and a great way to catch up with friends. In some circles, it’s also meant to be medicinal! Soaking in hot, mineral rich spas for health is called Balneotherapy, and people have been doing it for thousands of years to help with conditions such as arthritis – and just because it’s fun! People have been “taking the water” at Waiwera since 1848.

Waiwera has a range of indoor and outdoor pools, ranging in temperature from 30 to a toasty 48 degrees. And, like the slogan says, they’re “100% Naturally Hot”! The water’s sourced from a geothermal aquifer located 1,500 metres underground. No water is reheated; all pools contain nothing but natural, geothermal water.

So why not take a trip to Waiwera this winter? It might be good for your health!

We understand that sometimes our emails like to play a game of hide and seek; you might not find they’re sitting in your inbox like the usually do!

If you’re one of our grabbies who are missing out, don’t worry – there are a few things you can do to help ensure you’re receiving our great deals!

First things first, make sure your subscription settings are all correct and up to date. Simply login to your GrabOne account and head to Subscriptions under the main dropdown menu.

Here, you’ll be able to tell us what emails you’d like to receive! If you’re subscribing to our Experience email, make sure you tell us what regions you’d like to receive deals for by selecting it from the drop down menu, then clicking Add City.

Still not receiving emails? Try checking out your Spam Folder/Junk Mail box – our emails sometimes may skip your inbox and slide into your Spam folder. If you’re finding our emails here, try adding our email address (no-reply@grabone-mail.com) to your safe senders list.

I’ve been to Rainbow’s End many times, but always during the day time. The park’s a completely different experience after dark! The Roller Coaster was extra-exciting and even familiar rides like the Log Flume were new because you couldn’t see around the bend in the river.

Gimme was tall enough to ride all the rides – but too wide to fit in the seats! Poor Gimme. The rest of us got to explore the park and try out all the rides!

<img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7655" title="Gimmie's tall enough to go on all the rides!

Gimme was a hit with the crowd!

We tried out just about all of the rides, including the Invader, which was new to many of us.

And old favourites, like the Pirate Ship!

Of course the big attraction was Titanium! Since releasing their debut album, All For You, in 2012, Titanium have been performing all around the country.

Lots of the crowd were big fans who were even more excited about the performance than the Roller Coaster!

We were lucky enough to meet Titanium! The group invited us back into their green room. They were all lovely and friendly and genuinely excited to be performing.

<img class="aligncenter wp-image-7657" title="Us with Titanium!
And the set was great too!

Did you come to our party? We’d love to hear about your experience in the comments!

By now you would have seen our April Fool’s Day deal – Scuba Golf! We hope you’re not too teed off it’s not a real deal… To make up for the disappointment, we thought we’d take you behind the scenes of how a deal like that is set up!

How’d You Come Up With the Idea?

We knew we wanted to do an April Fool’s Day prank – what better excuse for a laugh? So we asked around the office for ideas. There were some great ideas… and some not so great ideas too! Matt’s Scuba Golf idea was a clear winner though. He won some GrabOne credit and a year’s bragging rights.

How’d You Fake the Pictures?

The short answer is – we didn’t! Scuba Golf’s not a real sport – but those photos are genuine! We asked a local aquarium very nicely if we couldn’t take some photos during their regular scuba dives… and if they wouldn’t mind taking a putter down with them. They said yes so it was just a matter of sneaking out of the office at lunch time (and hoping no one noticed we borrowed the putter from the office minigolf!).

The diver isn’t actually playing minigolf though – they couldn’t take a ball in as the fish would eat it! (We photoshopped a ball in on top of a couple of pictures afterwards.)

We had a whale of a time watching the fishes – it was a wonderful experience!

But That Video Looks Totally Fake!

That’s real too! We gave the divers our GoPro waterproof camera to hold, and stitched together the shots later with those professional looking transitions and captions.

Have another look at the deal, or rewatch the video below.

Here’s some extra-special bonus footage you won’t see anywhere else!

On Saturday March 9, GrabOne competed in the King of Bob!

The Red Bull King of Bob was hosted by Snow Planet. Nine teams competed for the title.

Each player had three chances to race down the slope, and catch some sweet air on the three jumps!

We were kitted out in gloves, over-pants and jackets, big stompy boots and helmets for protection against the inevitable spills.

It was a long climb to the top of the hill…

And a short, fast ride down!

The bobs were tiny, with just enough room to sit down on, and a cleverly tilted front for clutching with terrified knees.

Our team captain looked rather dashing in his hat.

And they’re off! Everyone fell over at least once… per run.

GrabOne placed last equal so we weren’t a complete disgrace!

King of Bob was HEAPS of fun! The team agreed we’d do it again next year. The bobs are available to rent from Snowplanet any time, so why not head along and try it out?

What to do …

I’m a bit torn. The looming long weekend is a pretty good excuse to lie in bed with hot cross buns, chocolate bunnies and a captivatingly good book. But … I’m quite keen to go shopping too. Holidays are prime opportunities for bargains, after all. But … I’m hankering for a bit of beach action too. If the weather’s still as awesome as it has been lately, four days of sun, surf and sand could be just the ticket. Quandary.

Shopping made easy

Here’s the solution. Mobile shopping, while I’m in bed or at the beach.

That’s right, GrabOne has well and truly gone mobile, which means you can access all of our deals and discounts where ever you happen to be – and you don’t need to cart around your desktop either. And this Easter we’ve got a bit of a perk too.

Easter treats are on their way!

While the shops might be closed this Easter, GrabOne will still be open for business. If you buy anything on GrabOne’s mobile site or smartphone app between Friday the 29th of March 2013 and Monday the 1st of April 2013, you’ll automatically be in the draw to win a share of $1000 GrabOne credit – we have 20 $50 GrabOne credit packages up for grabs. And yep, you can use your $50 credit in one hit if you’re one of the lucky winners.

GrabOne credit can now be spent across all GrabOne Sites – Experience, Store, Escapes or Bottle – which means you now have more flexibility on your purchases.

Just because the shops might be closed this Easter, doesn’t mean you need to skimp on the bargain-hunting experience. Introduce yourself to GrabOne’s mobile site or smartphone app here if you haven’t made acquaintances already.

Winners will be notified via email by 5th April 2013. See terms & conditions here.

Making life that tiny bit easier…

Don’t you just hate it when you’ve snapped up an awesome deal on GrabOne only to realise months later that you’ve completely forgotten to use it? Such a bummer! If only you had a helping hand to remind you to use that coupon before it expires.

Sound all too familiar?

Then you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve added a new feature to your Coupons page where you can set an email reminder for yourself 4, 3, 2 or 1 week before its due to expire.

How does it work?

After you’ve made a non-address required purchase on GrabOne, you will see a button to set a coupon expiry reminder both on the website and in your purchase confirmation email.

When you click that button, you will be taken to your Purchases page where you can choose what deals to set a reminder for.

Simply click the Coupon Expiry Reminder check box, then select how many weeks prior to your coupon expiring that you want to be sent an email reminder for.

Click Save Settings – it’s as easy as that!

You can also change this setting at any time before the reminder email is sent to you, and even afterwards too! As long as there is more than 1 week before the coupon expires, you can update your settings.

And if you want to cancel your reminder, simply un-tick the Coupon Expiry check box.

We hope you find this new feature as useful as we do!

Let us know what you think of it below.

It was a scorcher of a day, with Gimme feeling the heat most of all.

You can see Justin’s not so sure about this…

And if you’re wondering how he gets into the suit…

Getting into Gimme! vine.co/v/bw5pQveAAZ0

Gimme was a hit with the crowd, giving out heaps of hugs and high-fives.

We also stopped to have a bit of a boogie with the Hare Krishnas…

And made friends with a chicken…

But even Gimme had to wait for the portaloo…

Gimme was a real trooper, covering the 8.4km in about two hours! (The team was ready and willing to take a turn in the suit, but Justin completed the whole walk himself! Legend.)

The GrabOne team did more than just walk! Leo came in 21st over all, with a time of 30 minutes, followed by Gemma, the first woman from our office to cross the finish line at 45 minutes.

This was followed by a delicious BBQ lunch and a hard-earned beer. Just when we were about done patting ourselves on the backs, we spotted this article on Stuff.co.nz, which has Gimme front and centre!

We’re already looking forward to next year! In the meantime, you can check out the rest of the photos on Facebook!
