Waiwera now boasts many pools – including a movie pool which screens three movies daily. It’s the perfect way to relax and soak up a the mineral-rich waters – and more fun than meeting friends at the local mulitplex again. 

It was a busy day in the school holidays, so the water slides were very popular!

For those who feel the waterslides are a little too exciting, there’s also a Lazy River to relax in.

I’m sure the dentist was the last thing on these kid’s minds, but Waiwera does boast a dental clinic! It serves the community… including local children.

It’s reached by a separate entrance, tucked away by the gorgeous spa facilites.

Many of us think of Waiwera as a summer destination. It’s easy to see why! Kiwis love swimming, plus Waiwera has plenty of BBQ and picnic spots for the DIY alfresco dining we love.

But internationally, thermal pools like Waiwera are Winter spots. What better way to escape the chill than by soaking in naturally hot water?

Taking a dip is warming, relaxing, and a great way to catch up with friends. In some circles, it’s also meant to be medicinal! Soaking in hot, mineral rich spas for health is called Balneotherapy, and people have been doing it for thousands of years to help with conditions such as arthritis – and just because it’s fun! People have been “taking the water” at Waiwera since 1848.

Waiwera has a range of indoor and outdoor pools, ranging in temperature from 30 to a toasty 48 degrees. And, like the slogan says, they’re “100% Naturally Hot”! The water’s sourced from a geothermal aquifer located 1,500 metres underground. No water is reheated; all pools contain nothing but natural, geothermal water.

So why not take a trip to Waiwera this winter? It might be good for your health!

How you do this depends on which email program you’re using. Here’s a rather long list of how to do this in the most common email programs:

Gmail

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  On the upper right corner next to the reply button, click More.
3.  Click Add Sender to Contacts List.
4.  You should receive a message to confirm your action.

Mac Mail

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  Right-click on our email address at the top.
3.  Click Add to contacts in the menu that appears.
4.  Click Save and Close.

 Microsoft Outlook 2003

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  Select Actions from the toolbar.
3.  Select Junk Email from the dropdown menu.
4.  Select Add Sender to Safe Senders List.
5.  Verify that all our information is correct and click OK.

Microsoft Outlook 2007

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  Select Options from the Tools menu.
3.  Open the Preferences tab, and under Email, select Junk E-Mail.
4.  Click the Safe Senders tab and click Add.
5.  Enter no-reply@grabone-mail.com as a contact and click OK.
   

Outlook.com

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  Click the Add to contacts link next to our email address details at the top of the email.

Yahoo! Mail

1.  Open up one of our emails.
2.  Click the Add to Address book link.
3.  Enter no-reply@grabone-mail.com in the email field and Save Contact.

 Android

1.  Open one of our emails in your Gmail app.
2.  Tap the Contact icon to the left of our name and email address.
3.  Tap Ok in the add contact popup.
4.  Tap Create new contact at the top of your Contacts list.
5.  Enter GrabOne in the First Name field and no-reply@grabone-mail.com in the Email field.
6.  Tap Save.

1.  Tap on our name in the From line.
2.  On the next screen, tap Create New Contact.
3.  Click Done to save our address details

I’ve been to Rainbow’s End many times, but always during the day time. The park’s a completely different experience after dark! The Roller Coaster was extra-exciting and even familiar rides like the Log Flume were new because you couldn’t see around the bend in the river.

Gimme was tall enough to ride all the rides – but too wide to fit in the seats! Poor Gimme. The rest of us got to explore the park and try out all the rides!

Of course the big attraction was Titanium! Since releasing their debut album, All For You, in 2012, Titanium have been performing all around the country.

Lots of the crowd were big fans who were even more excited about the performance than the Roller Coaster!

We were lucky enough to meet Titanium! The group invited us back into their green room. They were all lovely and friendly and genuinely excited to be performing.

And the set was great too!

How’d You Come Up With the Idea?

We knew we wanted to do an April Fool’s Day prank – what better excuse for a laugh? So we asked around the office for ideas. There were some great ideas… and some not so great ideas too! Matt’s Scuba Golf idea was a clear winner though. He won some GrabOne credit and a year’s bragging rights.

How’d You Fake the Pictures?

The short answer is – we didn’t! Scuba Golf’s not a real sport – but those photos are genuine! We asked a local aquarium very nicely if we couldn’t take some photos during their regular scuba dives… and if they wouldn’t mind taking a putter down with them. They said yes so it was just a matter of sneaking out of the office at lunch time (and hoping no one noticed we borrowed the putter from the office minigolf!).

The diver isn’t actually playing minigolf though – they couldn’t take a ball in as the fish would eat it! (We photoshopped a ball in on top of a couple of pictures afterwards.)

We had a whale of a time watching the fishes – it was a wonderful experience!

But That Video Looks Totally Fake!

That’s real too! We gave the divers our GoPro waterproof camera to hold, and stitched together the shots later with those professional looking transitions and captions.

The Red Bull King of Bob was hosted by Snow Planet. Nine teams competed for the title.

Each player had three chances to race down the slope, and catch some sweet air on the three jumps!

We were kitted out in gloves, over-pants and jackets, big stompy boots and helmets for protection against the inevitable spills.

It was a long climb to the top of the hill…

And a short, fast ride down!

The bobs were tiny, with just enough room to sit down on, and a cleverly tilted front for clutching with terrified knees.

Our team captain looked rather dashing in his hat.

I’m a bit torn. The looming long weekend is a pretty good excuse to lie in bed with hot cross buns, chocolate bunnies and a captivatingly good book. But … I’m quite keen to go shopping too. Gimme was a hit with the crowd, giving out heaps of hugs and high-fives.

We also stopped to have a bit of a boogie with the Hare Krishnas…

And made friends with a chicken…

But even Gimme had to wait for the portaloo…

Gimme was a real trooper, covering the 8.4km in about two hours! (The team was ready and willing to take a turn in the suit, but Justin completed the whole walk himself! Legend.)

The GrabOne team did more than just walk! Leo came in 21st over all, with a time of 30 minutes, followed by Gemma, the first woman from our office to cross the finish line at 45 minutes.

This was followed by a delicious BBQ lunch and a hard-earned beer. Just when we were about done patting ourselves on the backs, we spotted this article on Stuff.co.nz, which has Gimme front and centre!
